Laphroaig – Elements 3.0 Single Malt Scotch Whisky (70cl, 55.3%)

Laphroaig Elements 3.0 is a limited release single malt from Islay, the third expression in the distillery's Elements Series. It is bottled at 55.3% in a 70cl bottle and carries no age statement. It began with an unexpected kiln fire that burned longer and hotter than usual during malting. The barley above the kiln was dried for longer at a higher heat, and Laphroaig kept it apart from regular production to make a separate experimental whisky. The nose is dark and smoky, with charcoal, chocolate, spice and charred peat, then brine, citrus and butterscotch. On the palate come roasted cocoa, bitter dark chocolate, blackberry, plum and crème brûlée. The long, drying finish brings iodine, worn leather and sooty chimney smoke.
