Laphroaig – Elements L 2.0 (70cl, 59.6%)

Laphroaig Elements L 2.0 is an Islay single malt that came from an experiment with fermentation. The production team stretched the usual 55-hour fermentation to 115 hours, almost five full days, in a vessel aerated to recreate the conditions of earlier times. It is bottled at 59.6% ABV, non-chill-filtered and of natural colour. The nose is fruity with a light maritime touch: stewed green apples, vanilla custard, orange peel and subtle peat. The palate is sweet and salty, with green apple, liquid honey and the soft peat of a smouldering campfire and smoked seafood. The finish is sweet, with smoke that grows warmer.
