Ledaig – 19 Year Old Forgotten Gems is a whisky from Ledaig (Island). Aged 19 years, bottled at 40.1% ABV, 70cl.
The Tobermory Distillery, on the island of Mull, sits on the waterfront in the picturesque, and colourful, town of the same name (although those of you with young children may know it better as “Balamory”). Like so many others, the distillery, since its founding in 1798, has gone through several periods of closure, with this down-time accounting for nearly as much of its life as its periods of production have.
The distillery’s Ledaig expression (pronounced led-chig, and meaning “safe haven” in Gaelic) was first produced in 1971 when the Tobermory distillery was reopened after more than 40 years of silence. For a while all spirit produced was peated and called Ledaig. This changed soon enough and it became the name given to the peated malt produced at this distillery. It is only now becoming widely available as a single malt due to renewed investment, and promotion by its current owners, Burn Stewart Distillers.
Independently bottled by Atom Labs as part of the Forgotten Gems series, this one of only two bottles released comes from the last drops of their rare stocks and hand bottled in tiny batches. Limited by nature and unrepeatable.
Please note minor wear to paper seal and labels.
