Lochside – 1964/2024 60 Year Old Duncan Taylor (70cl, 45.3%)

This is a 60 year old Lochside, distilled in 1964 and combining malt and grain whisky made at the same site. It matured in sherry casks and was bottled by Duncan Taylor on 12 April 2024 at a cask strength of 45.3%, with an outturn of 30 bottles. It belongs to the Rarest Edition Collection, is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour, and comes in a 70cl bottle. The distillery in Montrose closed in 1992. The nose is rich and fresh, with wild strawberry, raspberry and blackberry, liqueur chocolates, old leather, aged sherry and a faint savoury note of soy. The palate is dense, with oak in front and sweetness behind, plus cardamom, clove, cinnamon and earthy rancio. The finish is very long and warming, with chocolate and dense fruit.
