Lochside – 1981 Gordon & MacPhail Private Collection (70cl, 40%)

A 1981 Lochside from Gordon & MacPhail's Private Collection, part of The Recollection Series, which revives and celebrates the character of now-closed distilleries. It comes from a single refill sherry hogshead, cask 802, and was bottled on 14 December 2021 at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle. Only 141 bottles were drawn from the cask. The nose is rich sherry with fragrant mandarin peel, salted almonds, raspberry compote and faint malted biscuit. The palate begins with roasted coffee beans, walnuts and stewed raisins, with blackcurrant jam, Seville orange peel and red apple. The finish is long, with lingering hazelnuts and cocoa powder.
