Lunar Crater Balboa is a Scotch single malt distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2022, matured in a wine cask.
The nose begins with dry red wine and oak, red currants and carambola, turning sweeter with time as cherry and strawberry join in. The palate is smooth and fruit-led, with underripe blackberry, black cherry and dark currant, darker and more intensely fruity than the nose, and milk chocolate towards the end.
In the finish the chocolate gives way to darker fruit, and light tannins bring the wine cask clearly into focus.
