Lupé-Cholet Mâcon-Lugny Les Charmes 2023

A white wine made from Chardonnay sourced from the local cooperative, which holds the monopoly on the Les Charmes vineyard in Lugny, in the northern Mâconnais. The 105-hectare vineyard is regarded as one of the best in the district, with marl, crushed sandstone and limestone, and some of the vines are Chardonnay musqué, giving a lightly spicy and aromatic style. After gentle pressing with a pneumatic press, the must ferments in temperature-controlled steel tanks at 20-22°C and matures for 8-12 months on the lees in steel tanks. The wine is bright, brilliant light gold. The nose shows freshness and bite, with buttery citrus, white peach, apricot and gooseberry. The palate is complex, with strength, fruit sweetness and a crisp, mineral, lightly spicy finish. It suits richer fish or meat sauces and goat's cheese.
