This is the 2013 limited edition of Maker's Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon, in a one-litre bottle at 45% with blue wax. The bottling features the likeness of American basketball player Dan Issel, who played for the Kentucky Wildcats and later for the Denver Nuggets.
The release ran to 20,000 bottles. Proceeds went to the Gill Heart & Vascular Institute in Lexington, which treats heart disease, as part of the Samuels family's yearly charity editions.
Tasting notes mention honey, vanilla, dry orange peel, dates and raisins on the nose, then milk fudge, cocoa, peaches and roasted nuts on the palate. The finish is long, with caramel, vanilla, honey, orange peel and oak.
