Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series BRT-01 is a cask strength Kentucky straight wheated bourbon, bottled at 54.7% (109.4 proof) in a 750ml bottle. It is the fourth release in the distillery's annual limited edition series, made from corn, red winter wheat and malted barley at Loretto, Kentucky.
The barrels were not rotated during maturation, and BRT-01 takes its cue from the hotter top of the rickhouse. The matured bourbon was finished in a secondary barrel fitted with 10 virgin toasted American oak staves. It was released in October 2022.
The nose is caramel and butterscotch with sweet spice and caramelised barrel. The palate is bright and thick, with vanilla cupcake, buttered toast, brown sugar and stone fruit. The finish is warm and toasty, with toasted oak, cinnamon and a hint of honey.
