This is a Kentucky straight bourbon from Mary Dowling, bottled at 45% ABV. It is made from a high rye mash bill and matured in toasted American oak barrels, then finished in tequila barrels.
The brand is a tribute to Mary Dowling, known as 'The Mother of Bourbon', who ran a distillery during Prohibition by relocating it to Juarez, Mexico. The tequila finish nods to that part of her story.
The nose offers toasted oak, vanilla bean, sweet agave and light citrus zest. The palate brings caramelised sugar, baking spices, roasted agave and a hint of white pepper. The finish is medium to long, with cinnamon, dried herbs and tequila-laced oak.
