Molinari Sambuca (70cl, 42%)

Molinari Sambuca is an anise liqueur from the Marche region of Italy, made by distilling alcohol flavoured with essential oils of star anise and fennel, along with flowers, sugar and water. Angelo Molinari began making it in 1945, and it takes its name from the elder flower, though star anise provides the main aroma. Clear and colourless, it smells of anise, liquorice and aromatic herbs, with a strong note of alcohol. On the palate it is sweet and fresh with good body and a long, aromatic finish. It is a classic after-dinner drink, also served alongside coffee, and is best neat or over ice.
