Monkey Shoulder is a Speyside blended malt Scotch whisky, bottled at 40% in a large 1.75 litre bottle. It is a vatting of three single malts from William Grant & Sons: Glenfiddich, Balvenie and Kininvie.
Each malt is matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, then the three are married in small batches for up to six months. The name refers to the arm strain maltmen once suffered from turning barley by hand.
The nose brings orange peel, vanilla, raw honey and lightly spiced oak. On the palate come vanilla fudge, caramel, butterscotch and milk chocolate, with pear and baked apple. The finish is medium, with spicy oak and a hint of peppermint.
