Naked Malt is a blended malt Scotch whisky, made by blending single malts and then extra-maturing the blend in first-fill sherry casks.
Blended malts are conventionally matured in pre-used bourbon casks, so this was a deliberate departure. The sherry casks had never held whisky before, which is why the name Naked casks was given to them.
