Nikka Discovery Series Yoichi Non-Peated (75cl, 47%)

Nikka Discovery Series Yoichi Non-Peated is a single malt from the Yoichi Distillery in Hokkaido, Japan, bottled at 47% ABV without chill filtration in a 750ml bottle. It is Volume 1 of Nikka's Discovery series and a limited release of 20,000 bottles worldwide. The malt is entirely unpeated, a deliberate turn from Yoichi's usually peaty character. The stills are coal-fired, which still gives the whisky some smokiness. The nose is citrus, orchard fruit and honey with smoke underneath. On the palate fruit leads and smoke follows, and the finish is long and gently ashy.
