Nikka – Taketsuru Pure Malt (70cl, 43%)

Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt is a Japanese blended malt in a 70cl bottle at 43% ABV. It pays tribute to Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka, and brings together the styles of the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries. The firmer, lightly smoky Yoichi malts are set against the fruitier, more elegant Miyagikyo ones. It is made from 100% malted barley, using pot still distillates, and matured mainly in ex-sherry casks and remade American oak casks. The nose shows orange and grapefruit, juicy pear, herbal notes and a hint of peat smoke. The palate is soft and round, malty and spiced, with cardamom and candied fruit. The finish is long, with citrus, dark chocolate and a light smokiness.
