Old Ballantruan 10 Year Old is a heavily peated Speyside single malt from the Tomintoul distillery, in a 70cl bottle at 50% ABV. Its smoke is dry, ashy and reminiscent of a campfire, set against a creamy sweetness. The profile is earthy, with a woody-sweet smoke, quite unlike the maritime, salty style of many Islay whiskies.
The nose suggests a dying campfire with heather, moss and sweet vanilla. Peat and pepper open the palate before turning to creamy, malty sweetness with liquorice, dark chocolate and candied apples. The finish is long and warming, with ashy smoke, tar and aromatic spices.
