Old Elk – Bourbon Whiskey (75cl, 44%)

Old Elk Bourbon is a blended straight bourbon bottled at 44% ABV. It follows a mash bill written by Master Distiller Greg Metze: 51% corn, 34% malted barley and 15% rye, which is roughly four times the malted barley of a conventional bourbon recipe. The bourbons are aged for at least four years in new charred American oak, then blended in Fort Collins, Colorado. Old Elk brings the whiskey down to bottling strength with its Slow Cut process, adding water gradually over weeks rather than in a day or two. The nose has sweet vanilla, caramel and clove spice, with maple and nutty almond. The palate is rich, smooth and coating, with the caramel of the charred barrels meeting gentle rye spice.
