Old Elk Wheated Bourbon (75cl, 46%)

Old Elk Wheated Bourbon is a straight bourbon from Old Elk Distillery in Fort Collins, Colorado, bottled at 46% ABV after a minimum of five years' ageing. Its mash bill is 51% corn, 45% wheat and 4% malted barley, roughly triple the wheat of a typical wheated bourbon. Instead of adding water over a day or two, the distillery brings the whiskey down to strength over several weeks in its Slow Cut process, intended to preserve the lighter flavours. The nose offers toffee, vanilla ice cream, caramel and floral notes. The palate is soft and creamy, with toffee, vanilla, toasted almonds and a little clove, and the finish is smooth and sweet.
