Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style is a bourbon bottled at 115 proof (57.5%). It was created as a nod to the Prohibition era, when whiskies had to be bottled at 100 proof.
The name refers to the Volstead Act of 1920, which began Prohibition in the USA. Old Forester was one of six Kentucky producers permitted to keep bottling bourbon for medicinal purposes, and it continued to be produced on Louisville's Whiskey Row.
A barrel entry proof of 100 would have reached about 115 proof after maturation, the strength chosen to reflect the rich flavour profile of the bourbon nearly 100 years ago.
