Old Pulteney – 18 Year Old (70cl, 46%)

Old Pulteney 18 Year Old is a Highland single malt from the distillery at Wick, bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. It was first matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks, then aged further in Spanish oak ex-sherry butts. Maturing close to the sea gives the distillery's whisky its briny character, and this bottling pairs that with sherry sweetness. The nose is dark chocolate, dried fruit and warm spice over a light sea breeze. The palate is full-bodied, with toffee, citrus peel and ripe plum, plus salted caramel and oak spice. The finish is long and warming, with a lingering saltiness and a touch of sweet sherry.
