This is a 13 year old rye whiskey from Pappy Van Winkle, bottled as part of its Family Reserve range. Most rye whiskeys have been four years old or younger, which makes a 13 year old rye an unusually mature example.
The nose is soft, with chestnuts, spice, vanilla and fruit. The palate brings cocoa, vanilla, spice and white pepper. The finish is long, warm and complex, with caramel and spice alongside dry oak.
