This is a dry Marsala Vergine DOP from Pellegrino, the Marsala cantina founded in 1880. It is made only from local grapes and aged by the traditional soleras method, in which casks of different years are blended to build complexity. The colour is a bright, light amber.
On the nose it is intensely aromatic, with dried fruit such as figs and walnuts, plus tobacco and vanilla from its long maturation in wood. The palate is dry and robust, with alcohol and acidity in good balance, and the nutty fruit and sweet spice carry into a long, lingering finish.
