Penelope Straight Bourbon is a four-grain straight bourbon, bottled at 40% in a 75cl bottle. It is made from whiskey distilled at the Ross & Squibb distillery (MGP) in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and aged for four years.
Three MGP mashbills are aged separately, then married: a 21% rye bourbon, a 99/1 bourbon and a 45% wheat bourbon. The finished grain bill is roughly 75% corn, 15% wheat, 7% rye and 3% malted barley, so both wheat and rye play a part.
The nose brings brown sugar, corn, caramel and green apple. The palate is sweet, with caramel, soft tropical fruit, vanilla, a little citrus and gentle pepper. The finish is moderate, with buttercream, cornbread and vanilla spice.
