Penelope Straight Rye (75cl, 46%)

Penelope Straight Rye is an Indiana straight rye whiskey from the Classic Series, bottled at 46% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It is distilled at Ross & Squibb Distillery in Lawrenceburg from a mash of 93% rye and 7% malted barley. The whiskey matures for 7 to 9 years in new charred American oak barrels. Rather than using a single barrel, the blender combines barrels of different ages within that range. The nose opens with spearmint and citrus zest, then baking spice and light toasted oak. On the palate come rye spice and cracked black pepper, followed by caramelised sugar and cool mint. The finish is moderately long, with almond, polished oak and a mint and caramel fade.
