Port Ellen – 1978/1998 20 Year Old Rare Malts (70cl, 60.9%)

This is a 20 year old Islay single malt from Port Ellen, distilled in 1978 and bottled in 1998 at a natural strength of 60.9% ABV. It is non-chill filtered and comes in a 70cl bottle. It was the first of two Port Ellen releases in the Rare Malts series. Port Ellen was a casualty of the whisky market crisis of the early 1980s. The distillery operated from 1825 to 1929 and again from 1967 to 1983, and at its closure it was the smallest of the three DCL distilleries on Islay.
