Port Ellen – 1980 Dun Eideann (43%)

This is a Port Ellen single malt made in 1980 and released by Dun Eideann, bottled at 43% ABV. Port Ellen stands on Islay and was founded in 1825. It closed in 1983. The distillery is known for peated single malts, and this bottling follows that style with a strong peat character and a light maritime edge. On the nose there is smoked peat, sea salt and a breeze off the ocean. The palate combines peat with dried fruit, dark chocolate and aged oak, and the finish is long, soft and smoky.
