Port Ellen – 35 Year Old 1978 Old & Rare

This is a Port Ellen 35 Year Old from the 1978 vintage, bottled in October 2013 by Hunter Laing for its Old & Rare range. It was distilled five years before the Islay distillery closed in 1983. The whisky matured in a single sherry-seasoned butt and was bottled at natural cask strength, non-chill-filtered and of natural colour. Just 231 individually numbered bottles were filled. It is described as setting Port Ellen's tarry peat alongside dried fruit, polished mahogany and maritime spice.
