Rabbit Hole Boxergrail Rye is a Kentucky straight rye whiskey from Rabbit Hole Distillery in Louisville, bottled at 47.5% in a 75cl bottle. The mashbill is 95% rye and 5% malted barley.
Each barrel is toasted slowly over a wood fire for up to 20 minutes before it is charred, a step the distillery uses to draw caramel sugars out of the oak. The whiskey is not chill-filtered.
The nose is tropical, with kiwi, grapefruit, mango and ripe banana, alongside hibiscus, lilac and a little pistachio. On the palate come citrus zest, chai spice, brown sugar and toasted rye bread. The finish is fairly short, honeyed and dry, with black tea and baking spice.
