RD1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Finished with Brazilian Amburana Wood

This is a Kentucky straight bourbon from RD1 Spirits, aged for over four years and then finished with Amburana staves. The mash bill is 70% corn, 21% rye and 9% malted barley. Amburana is sometimes called Brazilian oak and is also used to age cachaça. The cooperage drills small holes into the staves using a patented technique, which lets the bourbon work more closely with the wood. Baking spices lead the nose, with apple cinnamon and nutmeg alongside pine, vanilla, peach and apricot. The palate brings spice cake and ginger snaps, and a drop of water opens up herbal black tea, dark berry jam and pineapple pepper. The finish is long and warm, with allspice and sweet oak.
