Lost Monarch Cask Strength is a blend of straight rye and straight bourbon from Redwood Empire in Northern California, bottled uncut and unfiltered at 59% ABV as a limited release.
The blend is typically around 55% rye and 45% bourbon, with components aged from about 3 to 14 years in new American oak. The rye brings structure and pepper, while the bourbon adds caramelised sweetness and body.
The nose shows mint chocolate, citrus zest and baking spice with caramel and vanilla. The palate is warm and spicy, with dried apricot, maple and white pepper in an oily texture. The finish is long, with spice, oak and a herbal edge.
