This is a 12 year old single cask Royal Brackla from independent bottler Alpha Whisky, in a 70cl bottle at 55% ABV. The whisky matured from April 2008 in a first-fill Oloroso sherry hogshead.
The nose is of baked plums and peach under an oat and muscovado crumble, with rum and caramel custard. Water brings golden syrup sponge, gingerbread and brandy snaps. On the palate it starts prickly, with greengage, red apple and plum, then turns chewy and coating, with a marmalade-glazed ham note. Water smooths it and adds milk chocolate mousse and ginger.
The finish is long and viscous, punchy at full strength and softer with water.
