Royal Lochnagar – 12 Year Old - John Begg is a single malt whisky from Royal Lochnagar (Highland). Aged 12 years, bottled at 43% ABV, 75cl.
This older version of the core range 12-year-old was bottled by John Begg Ltd and notably does not feature the "Royal" prefix, labelled simply as Lochnagar. This was due to a lengthy grievance held by the distillery owners after Prince Philip publicly accused it of polluting streams on the Balmoral Estate while giving a speech in 1974.
A Highland malt distillery founded in 1845 by John Begg. It neighbours the Balmoral Estate and a visit by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1848 saw it bestowed with a Royal Warrant. It is today part of the Diageo portfolio and its single malt has been marketed since the 1970s.
