A 21 year old blended Scotch from Royal Salute, in a 70cl brown ceramic flagon at 40% ABV. Chivas Brothers created the brand in 1953 to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and the name refers to the 21 gun salute. Every whisky in the blend is at least 21 years old.
This flagon dates from the 1980s and 1990s and was made by English porcelain makers such as Wade or Spode, with a relief of Robert the Bruce on horseback. Strathisla malt sits at the heart of the blend.
The nose offers ripe pear, black cherry, candied fig and heather honey, with old wood and leather. The palate is velvety, with dark chocolate, candied orange peel and blackcurrant. The finish is long and warm.
