Savage & Cooke Lip Service is a rye whiskey from the Mare Island distillery in Vallejo, California, founded by winemaker Dave Phinney. The whiskey was sourced from Tennessee and distilled from a mash bill of 51% rye, 45% corn and 4% malted barley. It is bottled at 45% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
It was aged for three years in new charred American oak. Master Distiller Jordan Via then moved a portion into Phinney's own French Grenache barrels for about two months.
The nose shows licorice, red pepper, brown sugar and caramel over woody notes. The palate is rounded, with red berries, cinnamon, brown butter and cloves.
