Saveiro Vento do Oeste is a Madeira at 19% ABV, in a 75cl bottle. It is made entirely from Tinta Negra and aged for three years in the traditional oxidative way. Humberto Jardim of Henriques & Henriques made it. Its name means 'wind from the west'.
The wine then spends 12 to 18 months in used Kentucky bourbon barrels, which add vanilla and toasted-oak notes. The style is meio doce, or medium-rich.
Dried apricot and fig, brown butter and toasted walnut lead, with vanilla, caramel and a whisper of smoke from the barrels. The sweetness is medium-rich, lifted by Madeira's high acidity, and the finish is long and warming.
