This is the second Scallywag Winter Edition, a blended malt bottled by Douglas Laing at cask strength. It was released in 2021 in a run of 4,200 bottles, and the label shows the little fox terrier in a red and white bobble hat.
The whisky was matured in a combination of former Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry butts. It contains single malt from Macallan, Mortlach and Glenrothes.
The nose offers winter spices, above all cardamom and aniseed, with ripe, juicy fruit over the top. The palate is full and rich, with dark berries and spicy tobacco leaf alongside the spice. The finish is long and warming, returning to fruit and spice.
