Shinobu 15 Year Old is a Japanese-labelled pure malt, which means a blend of different single malts, or a blended malt. It is bottled at 43% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
The whiskies in the blend were not distilled in Japan, but were matured there for at least part of their lives. They spent time in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks before being married and finished in Mizunara, Japanese oak.
The nose brings salted caramel, raisins, dates, figs, new leather, fruity tobacco, candied nuts and chocolate-covered espresso beans. The palate is round, fruity and spicy, with liquorice, dried dark fruits, cinnamon, ginger and fennel. The finish is medium long, drying and spicy.
