This is a small batch Irish whiskey from the Skellig coast in County Kerry, in the south-west of Ireland. It is a blend of pot still and grain whiskey, bottled at 40%. The name refers to the 618 ancient stone steps built by monks on Skellig Michael.
It matured first in ex-bourbon casks and was then finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, a nod to the centuries of maritime trade between this coast and European ports. The pot still whiskey brings depth and balance, and the finish adds a rich sweetness.
The nose has nuts and butter, the palate brioche, fruit and caramel, and the finish is long and spicy.
