Springbank – 16 Year Old 1998 SMWS Single Sherry Gorda Cask 27.109 Guns On The Grouse Moor (2015) (70cl, 76%)

This is a 16 year old Campbeltown single malt from Springbank, distilled in 1998 and bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society at 76% from a single Sherry Gorda cask, code 27.109. The cask gave 788 bottles, each in a 70cl bottle. It is named Guns On The Grouse Moor. The tasting notes describe a misty moor scene: sherry-laced consomme, custard doughnuts and caramel bars, with burning heather and gun smoke in the distance. Savoury notes of mustard-crusted ham, dressed crab and honey glazed ribs give way to sherry trifle, zabaglione and chewy orange fudge, with eucalyptus and damp tweed.
