A 30 year old Campbeltown single malt from Springbank, distilled in 1995 and bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society at 76% as cask 27.115, titled Sweet Smoked Olive Oil. It is one of 227 bottles and the last Springbank cask the Society bottled.
After 24 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead, the whisky was moved into a first fill STR oloroso seasoned barrique.
The nose begins with caramelised pears, charred pineapple and mango, then sweet blue cheese and a watercress salad with smoked olive oil. The palate shows soot, coal dust, ash-coated goat's cheese and sweet and sour plum sauce. With water come pink grapefruit, tabasco, blueberry pancakes and orange pomander.
