Stagg Batch 23C is the Winter 2023 release of Buffalo Trace's barrel proof bourbon, a line named after George T. Stagg and formerly sold as Stagg Jr. It is made from the distillery's low rye Mash Bill #1, aged for roughly eight to nine years in new charred American oak, and bottled uncut and unfiltered at 125.9 proof (62.95%).
The nose offers dark caramel, candied pecans and ripe blackberries over toasted oak, vanilla, nutmeg and clove. On the palate, baking spice, cinnamon, anise and white pepper lead into caramel, brown sugar, leather, fig and licorice. The finish is moderately long, with baking spice and lingering sweetness.
