Stagg Jr. Batch 16 is the Spring 2021 release of Buffalo Trace's barrel-proof bourbon, bottled uncut and unfiltered at 130.9 proof (65.45%) in a 750ml bottle.
It is made from Buffalo Trace's low-rye Mash Bill #1 and aged in heavily charred new American oak for roughly eight to nine years. The name honours George T. Stagg.
The nose offers dark caramel, brown sugar and black cherry over charred oak, pipe tobacco and baking spice. The palate is thick and mouthcoating, with sweet chocolate, brown sugar, rye spice, molasses, leather and cracked pepper. The finish lingers with cherries, cloves and a hint of smoke.
