A Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace Distillery, bottled uncut and unfiltered at 128.7 proof (64.35%). Batch 17 is the Fall 2021 release and the last batch to carry the Jr. name; from Batch 18 the whiskey was sold simply as Stagg.
The name honours George T. Stagg, and the Jr. marked that this bourbon is aged for eight years, against fifteen to nineteen for the George T. Stagg bottling. It is made from Buffalo Trace's low rye Mash Bill #1 and matured in charred white oak.
It pours a deep mahogany. The nose has dark chocolate, brown sugar and dark cherry over toasted oak and baking spice. The palate is thick, with sweet chocolate and brown sugar balanced by rye spice, molasses, leather and cinnamon. The finish is long, with cherries, cloves and a hint of smoke.
