Strathmill 2014/2024 10 Year Old Koval Quarter Cask - Murray McDavid (70cl, 51.1%)

This Strathmill was distilled in 2014 and matured for ten years, first in bourbon hogsheads and then in quarter casks from the Koval Distillery in Chicago. Those small casks previously held bourbon, rye, four grain and oat whiskey. Murray McDavid bottled it in spring 2024 for its Benchmark series at 51.1%, without colouring or chill-filtration, in an edition of 1,174 bottles. The light, oily, fruity Strathmill character meets vanilla sweetness, grassy notes and bittersweet oak. The nose brings spicy pear and sweet apple with vanilla and oak. On the palate, bright citrus joins barley sugar and a grassy note. The finish pairs mild malt with firm oak and a bittersweet close.
