The Empress is a 17-year-old blended Scotch from the Tarot series by North Star Spirits, bottled at 43.5% in a 70cl bottle. It combines 32% malt whisky with 68% grain whisky. The whisky was distilled in 2007, matured in a refill butt and bottled in 2025, with an outturn of 600 bottles. It is non-chill-filtered and uncoloured.
The nose brings honey-coated hazelnuts and a touch of sea salt, with polished leather, heather, dates and chocolate fudge. On the palate a buttery biscuit base leads to leather, wood spice, light peat, mint and bitter dark chocolate. The finish is spicy and sweet, with a little peat and a sour bitterness.
