Helluva is a straight wheat whiskey from The Block Distilling Co. in Denver, Colorado, in a 750ml bottle at 47.5% ABV, or 95 proof. The mash is 94% wheat and 6% malted barley, and the whiskey has been aged for at least two years.
The distillery mills, ferments, distils and ages it in-house, using full-size char #3 oak barrels with toasted heads. The release was developed in collaboration with Colorado School of Mines, and a stated contribution from each bottle supports student creative-arts projects.
It has a smooth, soft mouthfeel with vanilla, toasted grain and light spice, and a measured finish. It can be taken neat or with a single ice cube.
