The Double Peat Blended Islay and Speyside Malt (70cl, 46%)

This is a blended malt that brings together peated single malts from Islay and the rarer peated malts of Speyside, from several distilleries. It is bottled by Angus Dundee at 46% in a 70cl bottle, without chill-filtration or added colouring. It opens maritime and salty before a sweeter, spicy smokiness with hints of heather comes through. The nose is smoky, recalling grilled meat, green barbecue peppers and damp embers, with a fresh vegetal note. On the palate there is strong peat smoke and olive brine with streaky bacon, chimney soot, woody spice and smoked fish. The finish carries cigar smoke and liquorice, then tingling sweet spice, with cloves and aniseed lingering.
