The Famous Grouse 12 Years is a blended Scotch whisky, bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle.
The family firm behind the brand, in business since 1800, was taken over by Matthew Gloag in 1896. His daughter Philippa painted the red grouse, Scotland's national bird, for the label of his whisky The Grouse Brand, and the label still serves as the brand's trademark. The whisky became so popular that The Famous was added to the name a few years later.
