The Macallan 18 Year Old is a single malt from the 1973 vintage, amber in colour.
The nose begins floral, with tangerine liqueur and old roses alongside sherried notes and a whiff of smoke. It moves on to oak, raisins, orange marmalade and apricot cake, with ripe mirabelle plums, strawberries, blackcurrant, prunes and a little toffee. The palate starts dry, with tea, bitter caramel and balsamic vinegar, then cake, rum and Smyrna raisins. The finish is long, dry and clean, slightly bitter, with hints of calvados and a little salt.
