The Macallan – 18 Year Old Double Cask (70cl, 43%)

This is an 18 year old Speyside single malt from The Macallan's Double Cask range, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It is matured in American and European oak casks seasoned with sherry in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. The American oak is said to add vanilla sweetness, while the European oak adds subtle spice and dried-fruit structure. The nose brings dried fruit, ginger and toffee, with orange and gentle clove and nutmeg. The palate is led by raisin and sultana, with caramel, vanilla and ginger, balanced by wood spice and zesty citrus. The finish moves from warm oak spice and ginger into sweet orange.
